Nanjanagud and Mysore Again

Visiting some of the places around Mysore was one of my wish lists. Last 8 months I have postponed various trips for many reasons. Brother's marriage and my project Demo made me to cancel some treks. Finally my exams got over and I decided to visit Nanjanagud which is very near to Mysore. Solo trip was in my mind without getting any support but in last minute my sister-in-law's brother Nagraj accompanied me.

There is only 4 direct trains to Najanagudu from Bangalore. First train starts at 1:30 AM. We went with 7:30 train.  For 35 Rs/ person you will reach the destination.

Nanjanagudu's main attraction is  Srikanteshwara temple. Popularly known as Dakshina Kashi, this place is main attraction for devotees of Shiva. But I was there to see the architectural beauty of temple which dates back to 9th century. So many rulers has contributed to the development of this temple. Originally built by Western Ganga dynasty, but it has undergone several changes during the reign of Hoysalas and Cholas.

Temple is built with Dravidian style of architecture.  The entrance looks like the gopuram of Belur. Even the Chamundeshwari temple has similar architecture. But once we enter, it reminded me of both Madhurai and Mysore Chamundeshwari. This is one of the biggest temple you find in Karnataka.

When we reached Nanajanagud it was 12:00 PM. We had lunch and left for the temple. It was cloudy day with festival kind of atmosphere. The reason was shooting of Dodmane Huduga movie. Actor Ravi Shankar was shooting for a scene in front of chariot. Nagaraj was very thrilled to see the shooting.

We had already decided that we will leave by 3:45 Train to Mysore. So we hurried up and stood in a queue. I remembered  special queue incident in Madhurai and Rameshwaram. Those are not much different from normal queue. So we stood for 2 hours in normal queue to get the darshana of Lord Nanjundeshwara. Though there is no board about allowing camera, it was not allowed to take photos inside. It was raining heavily when we came out. We ran fast to reach the railway station and again stood in a queue to get ticket.

Getting into the only passenger train to Mysore in evening was horrible experience. People were pushing in all direction and somehow we got inside. When we reached Mysore it was 4:30 PM.

Mysore again

You have every reason to love Mysore. Mysore has good connectivity, wide roads , tourist attractions,  good infrastructure , educational institutes , vibrant culture and beautiful girls :-D.

We had little time before night train to Bangalore. We took bus to City bus stand from Railway station. From city bus stand, you will get direct bus to Chamundi hills. It will take half an hour to reach there.

Chamundi hills is one of the beautiful place to spend your evening. Last time I have been to temple, so we decided to spend our time outside the temple.

Chamundeshwari temple

Built with Dravidian style of architecture, this is pride of Mysore kingdom.  The Big Nandi statue also adds more colours to this place.

From here you can see the top view of Mysore. This time there was no hurry. We had snacks and then we met actor Ravi Shankar. Every thing was tailor made for the occasion.

I must say this will be listed as not only spiritual place but also a romantic place where you can spend your useful time with your partner.

We had only an hour left for catching train, when we reached city bus stand. We wanted to see the beauty of Mysore place which is near by. Yeah !!!  what you read is  true. Mysore palace is only 5 minutes walk from the city bus stand. It was my first visit to palace during night time. You will lost in those beautiful lightings and don't miss taking a picture with divine palace as background.

In reluctant mind , we left the place. We took a bus to railway station and luckily we got the train. Again same experience of standing in the passenger train continued. Standing for 4 hours drained me completely. But Mysore will remain a place to explore more. More you visit, more you will fall in love with the city.
