Aurangabad - city

Why is that Aurangabad known as Tourist capital of Maharashtra ? Apart from Ajanta and Ellora what are the places to visit ?. If you are finished with both Unesco Heritage centres, there is plenty of places to visit in Aurangabad. Starting with Bibi ki maqbara, Salim Ali lake and Bird Sanctuary, Chatrapathi Shivaji Museum , Aurangabad caves, Panchakki and many more. Daulatabad fort is very near to Aurangabad. Sirdi is only 130 km from Aurangabad.Shani shingnapur is 90 km from here. You find many other forts and caves near Aurngabad.

Bibi ki Maqbara.

Popularly known as Taj of Deccan has an architecture similar to Taj Mahal. It is burial mausoleum of Aurngajeb's wife. The architecture is stand out and the garden in front of the monument has enhanced its beauty. You are visiting a burial and not a singe negative thought will come. Thanks to architecture you didn't even notice the reason behind the monument.

Some of the styles in the wall reminded me few mosques and prayer hall in Red fort. It is typical Moghul style. It is open for 12 hours a day, from 8 AM to 8 PM. So you can keep 3 hours for this and can target other places like Museum and Salim Ali Sarover.

We spent nearly 3 hours in this place. Most of the time spent looking at the birds in the park.

Panchakki

Panchakki is a medieval water mill used to grind the grains brought by the pilgrims. The source od water is a small spring in the mountain. Attached to this is a Dargah of Sufi saint Baba Shah Musafir.

People told many things about Panchakki, but when we visited it was a great disappointment. Though it is the technical brilliance of 17th century, it was not as good as it was mentioned in the travel websites and wiki. Chatrapati Shivaji museum is better than this place and worth watching.

Chatrpathi Shivaji Museum

Though Mumbai has the biggest Shivaji Museum , this is also equally good. Camera was not allowed inside. It has all the war instruments, coins of different era. The armors of Chatrapathi Shivaji and the war history is portrayed with photos and paintings. You can see the photos of Daultabad fort and other historical places during that era and also their information. If you are fan of Shivaji like me , it is the must place to visit in Aurngabad. Because you find many information about Shivaji that will definitely inspire you.

Salim Ali Sarovar

Salim Ali is one of the finest ornithologist India has ever seen. In his name they have built a beautiful sarovar and park. But sad state of the park is they have not kept the cleanliness. It was pathetic and the administrator has to blame for it.

With this post I have covered most of the famous places near Aurngabad. I missed Aurngabad cave and some forts. But in total it was an amazing experience in Maharashtra. I walked in the slums of Aurangabad, witnessed the Ganapathi festival , people treated me like a reporter. Shared auto is quite common here , so visting places was not a big headache. I will cherish every learning of this trip with Arjun. Thanks to Arjun for accompanying me.
