Sunrise trek to Skandagiri

Bangalore has so many trekking places nearby. I have visited only a few places. Trek to Madhugiri betta was an awesome experience. Trek to Kabaldurga, Kunti betta was a different experience. But the best was Skandagiri sunrise trek.

Every year on new year's day, I used to wish people and sleep. Some times I used to sleep much before. Because the new year is just another day for me.  In December month only I will plan my to-do list for next year. When I started planning thought of adding Skandagiri to my list. As per as travel plan is concerned, only Skandagiri was the only plan executed in 2019. I couldn't visit Vietnam. The plan for Tanjavore's visit didn't happen. One more visit to Gavi was a distant dream. Srilanka was unexpected. Couldn't do the trek to  Catherine Waterfalls. So only Skandagiri and Srilanka were the highlight of the 2019 travel journey. Thanks to Anil, Vineeth and last-minute surprise Laxmi for joining the trek.

Skandagiri is near to Nandi Hills and Muddenahalli. It was banned for a few years because of some bad incidents. After eco-tourism came into existence, it was opened for the sunrise trek. If we can behave responsibly nature lovers can enjoy these kinds of beautiful places. But we have to ensure no plastic inside the trekking premises. Not just trekking premises, any tourist place should not allow plastic wastages. Keeping these premises clean is our responsibility.

Going for a night trek is different, but waking up till 2 AM in the home and starting at midnight is a different experience. As it was new year's eve, traffic was there. We reached the check post at exactly 4 AM. For Skanadagiri trek, you need to register online. Since most of the people hadn't registered, the forest guard allowed us by taking the entry fees. The entry fee was 250 Rs/person. Don't forget to carry a torch and water with you. I t was an easy trek for us which took not more than 90 minutes.

Once we reached the top, we realized what we missed. A DSLR was missing. But hand gloves were most needed in that brisk climate. I was shivering and was not able to hold mobile.  Once it was becoming bright, we could see a milky cloud just below the hill. I haven't experienced anything like that. I could imagine the Ksheera Sagara mentioned in mythology like this. We were all thrilled and were enjoying the funny conversation.

As the sun came from under the cloud, it looked like some dream. As the sun radiated its energy, it was reflecting on our face. The excitement, the curiosity has come to the finishing line.  Everyone was busy clicking the pics and videos. After the clicks and excitement, we sat for a few minutes staring at the cloud. We were searching where it is ending.

As the sun rays became sharpened, we decided to leave. The descending was easier than climbing,  as the route was visible now. Though a little tired, we wanted to reach as early as possible so that we could visit Muddenhalli on the way.

Muddenhalli is the birthplace of  Bharat Ratna Sir M Vishweshwaraiah who is worshiped in Karnataka for his contribution to the field of engineering and administration. He was Diwan of Mysore for 7 years and is the chief architect of KRS Dam, Mysore. It was a divine feeling when we visited the place. I felt it was totally ignored by our Govt. The government would have made this place as a learning center for the younger generation. They really missed the plan to make this a major education center where people can study in detail about engineering marvels.

As I visit more places like this, we really get to know the realities of the world. They have named many colleges in the name of Sir M V. But they failed to make this place as a learning center which could have motivated much younger generations.

In the world which is covered with hatred and division, literature and science have a major contribution to the upliftment of the youth. We might have seen many sacrifices, but the nation-building and creating a peaceful world is entirely lying in the hands of education and it's contributors. I am not talking about the education that is being taught in schools but the life skills which show us the proper way to lead a life. The land of Buddha, Basavanna, Mahatma Gandhiji should concentrate more on values.

” The way to build a nation is to build a good citizen. The majority of the citizens should be efficient, of good character and possess a reasonable high sense of duty.” - Sir M.V.
