Mysore, Sri Rangapattana - First time

If you ask me where did you started your journey of travel ? I might go back to mind tree days.   Even I might go back to the days when I used to read all those stupid journals on travel. But the journey on my own way started with Mysore. Mysore is one among the two must visit place in Karnataka. The other being jog falls. It took me five long years to see this beautiful historical and cultural city  . I was even prepared to go alone. But I got a company in a spiritual guy Dinesh. He was my  colleague in Nest.  Dinesh is from Andhra and is a devotee of Iscon. I must say Mysore visit triggered my journey to the real world.

That was in 2013, when I started my campaign with Srirangapattana and Mysore. We booked ticket in Karnataka tourism development bus which goes for Mysore sight seeing.

We left at 6:40 from Badami house which is very near to Bangalore corporation.

We stopped near Kamat Upachar near Channaraya patna. As I know, neer dosa is very famous here. We had neer dosa and upma . By the time we left the place it was 8:50.

Srirangapatna

We reached Srirangapattana by 10:00 AM. Surrounded by Kaveri river, Srirangapattana was the capital during Tippu and Hyder Ali rule. It is famous for Ranganatha swamy temple, which is the prominent pilgrimage center.

Dhariya Daulat

Our first stop was in Dhariya Daulat, which was the summer palace of Tippu Sultan. This palace is built with 60% teak wood and 40% bricks. We had some 40 minutes here for the museum visit. Inside palace photography was not allowed. Palace which is converted into museum has some paintings about war, place and people. And also there was some photographs of Tippu's  and Wadeyar's era.

After Dhariya daulat, our next destination was Ranganatha swamy temple. On the way we saw tippu's tombstone and water gate from where British entered Tippu's fort which was difficult to get in.

Ranganata temple

The vijayanagara style of architecture amazes you in this temple. We had to stand in queue to get darshan of lord Ranganatha. It is one of the antiquity listed by Archaeological survey of India and is also one of the pancha ranga kshetra.

Mysore

After ranganatha swamy temple, we moved to Mysore which is only 15 km away. Mysore is the cultural capital of Karnataka. One of the famous tourist place after Coorg and one of the most loved city.

St. Philomina church

When we reached this beautiful church, it was 12:10 PM.  It is built in Neo gothic style and is one of the beautiful church found in Karnataka. We also found some art paintings outside church.

Kaveri silk emporium

We had shopping point in Kaveri emporium, which is run by Karnataka government. Some people bought Mysore silk saris and sandal woods here. We then had lunch in Mayura Yatri Nivas.

Mysore palace

We then moved to the high point of this visit Amba Vilas palace popularly known as Mysore palace. After Taj mahal, this is the tourist attraction having highest number of visitors. Entry fee for Indians is 50 Rs and for foreigners it is 200 Rs. The rose wood doors, marble works and paintings of Mysore maharajahs will welcome you in the palace. Camera is not allowed and should be kept in cloak room. You can hire a Guide here.

Palace road

Chamundi Hill

We then went to Chamundi hills. One of the beautiful place where you can spend your evening. Chamundeshwari temple on top this hill makes it much more interesting. We took the ticket and had darshan of lord Chamundeshwari. The priests here were arrogant and money oriented. Even for kumkum prasad they were asking money. There is mahishasura statue you can see when you climb down a little bit. There is also a big nandi statue which is 7.6 m long and 4.9 m tall.

KRS Dam and Brindavan

It was almost dusk when we reached Brindavan attached to KRS dam. Like flowers, water fountains in the garden welcomed us. The beauty of this garden can take you to some other world in night, when colorful fountains starts dancing. The moment you are in some other world, it can make you dance when musical fountains start dancing to the music. Due to time constraints and crowd I couldn't record it.

When Dinesh reminded me that we need to leave, I came to the real world. Finally we left the beautiful city of Mysore. Mysore is very close to my heart. The wide roads and calm city has won my heart. I have been a frequent visitor there after.  Mysore visit has made a lot of change in my life. I started travelling with some bunch of like minded people. We planned, organised, travelled and learnt a lesson.

Travel makes you to fall in love again and again .
