Himalayan Trek : Base Camp training

Acclimatization Trek :

Acclimatization trek is to adopt to the climate and making sure we can carry heavy weight in high altitude. In high altitude we will get some weight because of altitude and we should be ready for such condition. We pulled the bag given in camp and put two rugs and water bottle.  Instructor told us if we carry more weight it will be good. So some people carried extra luggage also.We assembled at 8:30 PM and followed our instructor.

In front of base camp

All the members were using the same bag and hence it looked like a ants in line.

Half way

We took lot of pictures in between. I didn't bring my camera and all the pictures were taken by Guru.

We had small break near one house where we had lassi. It was good and we enjoyed the lassi.  This is where we started making friendship.

Group leader Parvej Bhai preparing lime juice
We carried an empty bucket. At the last point we poured down half of our water to bucket and prepared lime juice. Some people shared the snacks they carried. And the team bonding was very good between us.
We took a group photo and before that our instructor and team introduced themselves to the group. Some of them were working in airlines, some software engineers , some government officers and one lady introduced herself as Pizza manager. Omkar who introduced himself as professional student. After having a break we were taken to a surprise location. We were very keen to know what is that surprise and finally we were taken to a beautiful falls.

We enjoyed for nearly 1 hour. People took photos and Vijay got into water and was ready for standby clothe also. We didn't took any clothes and instructor strictly said not to get wet while going to base camp. After enjoying in the falls, we took our bag and moved towards our base camp.  It was an  oasis for us since we were tired completely. We reached base camp at nearly 1:00 and had lunch.

Evening we had session by our Camp leader about what to do and what not to do. There only our cultural lead , group lead, co lead and environmental lead was chosen. Parvez Bhai was chosen as Group lead because of his experience in trekking, Ashesh as co lead who voluntarily taken the role. Gauri was chosen as cultural lead and Vijay as Environment lead.

Rappelling :

Rappelling is the controlled descent down a rock face using a rope. On 3rd day in base camp we were having rappelling and rock climbing session. That day morning we assembled at 8:30 for rappelling. We went in the same route which we used for climate acclimatization.

Our instructor explained us how to do rappelling. One rope was tied to our hip and the end will be tied to some tree in such a way that they will release it slowly.  The other rope will be in our hand. One hand will be on backside which will help us in moving rope and move downward.
and from other hand we can release the rope which we have pushed.  This one looked tough but I enjoyed it thoroughly. We wore helmet while rappelling. You can use any hand for pushing and releasing.

Since I am a left hander I used my left hand for pushing and others used right hand for pushing. We waited till every one finished. By the time we reached base camp it was 1:30 PM. Rappelling is very useful in trekking especially high altitude trekking which we learnt how to do it. But we should know rope tie methodologies to master rappelling.

Rock Climbing :

After waiting for hours for rappelling we were tired and after lunch we slept for few minutes. But we were supposed to go for rock climbing at 3:00 PM.
Meantime
Searching for proper grip

We were all shown a small stone which we thought very easy to climb. But as the people tried I got to know it is not so easy.
I was the last one to try. We were given instruction on how to do rock climbing. I have mentioned the same in other post also.
Your 2 legs and 2 hands are useful in rock climbing. While climbing 3 of them should have some support. You should use your crossed fingers of hand to get the grip. You should place your toes in the holes within the rocks or small rocks to climb up.
Finally got it
I had a problem with gripping the stone. I was wearing hand gloves. That might be the reason for the difficulty in grips. Somehow I managed to climb the rock. But it helped me a lot in Truind. We had a rope for support. Our instructors were very supportive.  The one in hat below is the most liked instructor. He was there for morning exercise and also Rappelling and rock climbing. We took a photo with them.
